MS Calculator Guide 2008-09
Excited, energetic, enthusiastic! These
are some of the characteristics of the middle school student.
Capitalizing on these traits,
the dedicated, highly-qualified teaching staff of the Delaware
County
Christian Middle School appropriately challenges and encourages
the middle school student to discover the gifts God has given
each one to use for His glory.
Located
on the Malin Road campus of the Delaware County Christian
School, the middle school has its
own classroom
building
and shares the art, music and physical education buildings
with the high school. The middle school consists of 254
students in grades 6-8. There are14 full-time middle
school teachers, the majority of which have their master's
degree.
The strong educational program of the middle school includes
the core classes of English, literature, social studies,
science and mathematics. Presently, students in 6th grade
take Spanish thereby building on the Spanish curriculum that
currently begins in second grade. This year’s seventh
grade students are offered a class to acquaint them with
both Spanish and German while eighth grade students select
either Spanish I or German I as their foreign language elective.
In addition, computer application (6th and 7th grades ),
health, guidance, art, and physical education classes are
included in the curriculum. At each of the three grade levels,
DC offers a choir with more than fifty members and a middle
school band with seventy instrumentalists. The Discovery
Center provides support programs for students including educational
therapy and resource rooms.
Bible
is taught four mornings a week and chapel is held for
the entire middle school on Fridays. There
are also
opportunities
to expand other talents in some after-school electives
such as: Science Olympiad, newspaper, yearbook, basketmaking,
Spanish club, math club, scrapbooking and chess clubs.
There
is a program of athletic team competition in the following
sports: soccer, field hockey, cross country (8th grade),
wrestling, basketball, softball and track.
Field trips during the course of the middle
school experience include trips to Ellis Island and the
Statue of Liberty,
Gettysburg, Old Philadelphia, a three day science
outdoor education program, the National Holocaust Museum,
plays
and museums. The eighth grade also begins the school
year with
a retreat and ends the year with a parent-sponsored
banquet as well as a trip to Hershey Park just before graduation.
 The
middle school is a bridge time between the elementary and
high school years. The program at Delaware County
Christian School endeavors to
meet the unique opportunities of this
special time in a student's life. Prospective students
are encouraged to spend a day visiting the school
with a previously
scheduled appointment.
